<p>Cul­tural scholar and activist Terezita Romo has authored the first extended mono­graph of the life and work of Malaquias Mon­toya, the rev­o­lu­tion­ary print­maker and painter who was one of the great influ­ences of the Chi­cano Arts Move­ment of the 60’s and 70’s.</p>
<p>Come meet the artist and author at our public reception and book party where we will host a dialogue between Montoya and Romo. The artist will also have prints on display and for sale, as well as the book.</p>

<p>Malaquias Montoya has lectured and taught at numerous colleges and universities in the San Francisco Bay Area including Stanford and the University of California, Berkeley. He was a Professor at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, CA for twelve years; for five of those years he was Chair of the Ethnic Studies Department as well. During this period he also served as Director of the Taller de Artes Graficas, in East Oakland, where he produced various prints and conducted many community art workshops. Since 1989 Montoya has held a professorship at the University of California, Davis, teaching both in the department of Art and the department of Chicana/o Studies. In 2000, he spent a semester as Visiting Professor in the Art Department at the University of Notre Dame, in Indiana, and he currently holds the title of Visiting Fellow in the Institute for Latino Studies at Notre Dame.</p>

<p><a title="TRPS.org" href="http://trps.org" target="_blank">The Rock Poster Society’s</a> annual fall classic, the Festival of Rock Posters is set to go for Saturday October 8th, 2011 at the San Francisco County Fair Building in beautiful Golden Gate Park.</p>
<p>Featuring rock poster artists and dealers from around the country, this is the biggest rock poster event of its kind anywhere! Those of you who have attended this show in the past know that this is the one not to miss. The Rock Poster Society brings in the best of the best, and you’ll find everything from vintage psychedelic treasures to the best of the modern silkscreen movement. This year’s version promises to offer another stellar lineup!</p>
<p>The show runs from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm. Admission is $10 for the public, and $5 for TRPS member.</p>

BayKids empowers children facing serious medical challenges to express themselves through the art and magic of film-making. <p>In addition to the music, there will be a Silent Auction. Proceeds will help BayKids to continue its work in support of hospitalized children.</p>

<p id="reading">BayKids has evolved to focus its multimedia expertise on serving children in the Bay Area facing medical challenges. Working in partnership with Children’s Hospital and Research Center Oakland and UCSF Children’s Hospital, our digital filmmaking programs provide kids with the opportunity to explore their creativity while learning filmmaking, teamwork and leadership skills. As of July 2009, BayKids has helped over 5,000 children and their families get through cancer and other medical conditions.</p>
