Ron Donovan and Dave Hunter teamed up over the holidays to design and print a movie poster for Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars playing at the Red Vic Movie House in San Francisco on December 29-30, 2009. This sweet print was hand drawn and printed by Dave Hunter at Hangar 18 to advertise the Dark Nouveau Art Show at Varnish Gallery, featuring Malleus, Alan Forbes, Firehouse and Mr Hunter himself. The show was a focus on the Art Nouveau influence on the modern psychedelic concert poster. Performing on the second night were Acid King and Malleus’ band, Uffomammut, all the way from Italy. Print features super rich red fluorescent and metalic gold inks, hand mixed by Dave himself. From an edition of 90 on 14pt bullet proof coated stock, and a very limited variant edition of 16 on Velvet Red Vellum Stock.

WEST FEST San Francisco 2009 Poster by Dave Hunter

Last week we printed a series of 4 silkscreen posters for West Fest, this one designed by Dave Hunter. Also included in the series are posters by Malleus, Chuck Sperry and Ron Donovan. This is a 4 color print, created with eye-fry fluorescent inks and Electrachrome™ technology. We pulled an all-nighter to get this out the door, feasting on cranberry trail mix and gallons of coolaid. The show was quite interesting, especially towing Malleus to a full-on Hippy Festival. Our favorite attractions were the completely random questions, picnic lunch by TRPS, plenty of painted breasts and the Holograph Guy.

GOV’T MULE Warfield posters by Dave Hunter & Chuck Sperry

Dave Hunter and Chuck Sperry designed and printed a two-up poster for Gov’t Mule when they played Friday and Saturday, September 25 and 26, 2009 at the Warfield, Firehouse Goldenvoice Poster Series numbers 66 and 67.

These were printed together on one parent sheet and cut apart, so the challenge was to bring out the best in each artist while sharing the same color palette. We chose to print a heavy silver metallic and tint the silver with three custom mixed primary colors and black.

Both posters are available here in a limited offering.

A very limited release of uncut sheets containing both posters will be made at TRPS Festival of Poster at the Hall of Flowers in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park on Saturday, October 10, from 10 am to 6pm.
