A decade in the making…

Bill Gra­ham Presents’ New Fill­more Series is at an impor­tant sign-post: F1000. This hall­mark San Fran­cisco poster series is still going strong at it’s 1000th poster. To mark this spe­cial occa­sion, BGP will be releas­ing Chuck Sperry’s poster for The Pre­tenders at The Fill­more audi­to­rium in San Fran­cisco on March 14 & 15, 2009.

Sig­na­ture to The Fire­house is a mas­ter­ful use of metal­lic col­ors, to be com­mem­o­rated in this spe­cial off­set print­ing by Great Impres­sions, SSF by includ­ing a spot sil­ver metal­lic ink. Sperry, in con­sul­ta­tion with the printer, gave this poster The Fire­house touch, so the metal­lic will be printed — left to dry for one day — and then spe­cially tinted by blue and pur­ple. Just the right touch to cel­e­brate a great show and 1000 great posters. Con­grat­u­la­tions Chuck!

Tom Jones Warfield by Jeff Ross

The next gig poster in the Fire­house Gold­en­voice Series is for the Tom Jones con­cert Sat­ur­day, March 7th at The Warfield by artist Jeff Ross. It’s not unusual to see great artists like Jeff Ross work their magic when they are at Hangar 18. Stay tuned for details on an upcom­ing art exhibit in Venice fea­tur­ing works printed by Jeff while he was kick­ing it at Hangar 18. Now avail­able for pur­chase through the artist.

Eye­sore: Recent Lit­ter from the Fire­house Kus­tom Rockart Company

To cel­e­brate the 6 year anniver­sary for the book release of Eye­sore: Recent Lit­ter from the Fire­house Kus­tom Rockart Com­pany by Chuck Sperry & Ron Dono­van, the 540 Club is host­ing an art show to cel­e­brate. Come down to see silk screened gig posters, art prints, and other pop cul­ture may­hem that was fea­tured in the book. Posters will be avail­able for pur­chase. We hope to see you there.

Edi­to­r­ial Review: Fire­house has cre­ated posters for rock bands includ­ing Pave­ment, Pearl Jam, Beastie Boys, Madonna, Eric Clap­ton, Wide­spread Panic, Van Mor­ri­son and the Rolling Stones. Although the artists of the Fire­house Kus­tom Rockart Com­pany, aka Chuck Sperry and Ron Dono­van, have worked with numer­ous major rock bands, they have main­tained their street cred­i­bil­ity by fur­nish­ing posters for such events as Incred­i­bly Strange Wrestling, which mixes punk bands and Mex­i­can wrestlers. This book con­tains a rich sam­pling of their sig­na­ture silkscreen tech­nique that blends splen­did artistry with impec­ca­ble crafts­man­ship — an eye-popping col­lec­tion of the rock and roll posters and ephemera that made this stu­dio famous.
